Detailed Family Background Enclosed:
Ramesh Pandi comes from an impoverished family. The family lives in Vadipatti in
Madurai District. The parents are unskilled daily wagers. They have two children. Both
parents work on the construction site. They used to earn insufficient income. Moreover, the
father developed a drinking habit and became an addict in the course of time. This had a
serious impact on the family life altogether. Ramesh’s father would drink and come home
in the evening and beat her mother. The parents would quarrel almost every day. Though
their eldest son was already in school, his father would disturb his study hours and
discourage him from going to school. As a consequence, Ramesh parents were separated
over his abusive behavior. Ramesh’s mother took her two children and started living
separately. She continued to work on the construction site and earn money for the family.
As Ramesh Pandi was still young she needed accompaniment during the day while she was
at work. She couldn’t sacrifice her work because she needed to work daily to feed her
children. Her family situation was compelling her to find a suitable place for her child
Ramesh. She began to look for a hostel facility that might provide education. As she was
searching, one of her friends referred to her St. Joseph’s Development Trust and its services
to poor children over the years. As directed, she came over to the Head office of SJDT and
had a good conversation with Bro. Sebastian. She could feel the family environment there
and happily admitted Ramesh Pandi to the Pudhu Punal Orphanage.
